Eric Spurling, FRI, R.I. (B.C.), CRF, CPM - President
Our President and Managing Broker has had considerable experience in the management and real estate fields. He continues to be active in the day-to-day management of the company and is a member of our Leadership Team. Eric has been involved in the real estate industry, property management and the lending and asset management field in Victoria for the past 35 years.
Eric holds diplomas from the University of British Columbia in Urban Land Economics in both the property management and appraisal specialty areas. Eric also holds recognized professional designations in these areas and in Real Estate Finance from both the Real Estate Institute of Canada and the Real Estate Institute of B.C. Eric has also earned the CPM (Certified Property Manager) designation, which is awarded by the Institute of Real Estate Management. This is the highest recognition of professionalism in the property management field awarded in North America.
In addition to his professional designations, Eric has held positions as Chair of the Rental Housing Council of B.C., the Apartment Owners & Property Managers Association of B.C., and the Victoria Chapter of the Real Estate Institute of Canada. Eric has served as a Governor of the Real Estate Institute of B.C. and as Co-Chair of the Government Liaison Committee.
Andy Spurling, B.A., LL.B. - Vice President Operations and In House Counsel
Andy oversees the day-to-day operations of the company and also provides property management services to some clients. He is a member of our Leadership Team and oversees the activities of our property managers. Andy holds a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Victoria. Prior to joining Proline in 2007, he acted as counsel for Bell Canada. Andy has also worked in major law firms in both Toronto and New York. Andy is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Law Society of British Columbia, as well as the Canadian Bar Association and Victoria Bar Association. Locally, Andy is the Vice President of the Vancouver Island chapter of the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise (CAFE).
Dwight Mueller, B.B.A., CA - Vice President Finance
Dwight oversees our accounting functions and is a member of our Leadership Team, as well as manages a number of large strata corporations. Dwight has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Trinity Western University and earned his CA designation with Deloitte and Touche in 1992. After a term as an Audit Manager, Dwight worked for a Victoria based Real Estate Investment/Holding firm prior to joining Proline in 2003.
Katherine Soetaert, B.Comm., CMA - Accounting Manager
Kathy oversees the accounting functions at Proline and is a member of our Leadership Team. She also deals with the day-to-day activities within the accounting department. Kathy has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta. Kathy earned her CMA designation in 1993. Kathy worked for a number of accounting firms and with manufacturing firms and governments overseas prior to joining Proline in 2005.
Kathryn Squires Basson, B.A. - Manager Administration & Training
Originally from Northern British Columbia, Kathryn completed her degree at UVic and then spent six years teaching overseas in the Czech Republic and Taiwan before joining Proline. She has recently completed the Advanced Diploma in Human Resources from Camosun College and is now working towards her CHRP certification. In addition to supervising our strata administrative support staff and reception, Kathryn is also a member of our Leadership Team and focuses on the human resources aspects of the business including the oversight of our company training programs.
Arnold Hobson, B.A., J.D. - Manager Rental Department
Arnold maintains a rental management portfolio and is also a part of the Leadership team. He is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day supervision of the rental property managers. Prior to joining Proline, Arnold has a varied and broad background, which includes hands on management of residential and estate properties and the practice of law in the USA for ten years, with a focus on civil litigation. Arnold manages a portfolio of single family dwellings, condominium units and apartment buildings.
Michael is our longest serving rental property manager and has been with the company since 1991. Michael relocated to Victoria in 1991 from Montreal where he was involved in a manufacturing business for many years. Michael manages a portfolio of primarily single-family dwellings and condominium units, as well as some small apartments.
Elaine is a senior strata manager. Originally from Ontario, Elaine held a number of accounting and administrative positions before becoming involved in property management in the early nineties. Elaine has been with Proline since relocating to Victoria and presently manages a portfolio of large, high end strata corporations.
Laura is a rental property manager. Laura has had many years of administrative experience and experience dealing with people. Originally joining Proline in an administrative capacity, Laura also worked in our accounting department before becoming a property manager. Laura manages a portfolio of single-family dwellings and individual condo units, as well as some multi-family properties.
Elaine Smith, B.A.
Elaine is a rental property manager. Elaine has been involved in property management and real estate for many years. Elaine was a property manager with another local firm prior to joining Proline. Elaine's portfolio consists of single and multi-family dwellings. With a flair for design, Elaine is often involved in renovation projects within her portfolio.
Alan is a strata manager. Alan has 30 years experience in graphics design, production and management, and brings his experience to the strata management team at Proline. Alan is responsible for a variety of strata developments with an emphasis on larger buildings.
Kate came to us from another management company. Her background prior to joining Proline was in rental management administration. Kate is a rental manager specializing in apartments, single condominiums and single family dwellings.
Adam is a rental manager specializing primarily in unfurnished rental apartments and condominiums. Prior to joining Proline in 2009, Adam was involved in service industries for many years, both in the restaurant industry and outdoor adventure guiding. Adam's quick wit is always appreciated at team meetings.
Paul is a strata manager who recently emigrated from England. Paul's previous experience prior to joining Proline was working for law firms in Great Britain where he dealt with and prepared regulatory submissions and followed up on various infractions primarily within the liquor licensing system.
Daryl is the senior strata manager in our Nanaimo office, having moved to Nanaimo from Victoria to open the mid-island Proline location. Daryl has spent a number of years serving on strata councils and completed a term as President of his strata council prior to joining Proline. Daryl has had personal experience with the remediation process and has been an active participant in the various seminars available within the industry. Daryl has just completed a term as a board member of the Condominium Home Owners Association of B.C.
Linda relocated to Victoria from the lower mainland. Linda, a Certified Financial Planner by training, has a wide variety of office and administrative experience. Linda has owned condominiums for many years and has served on a number of strata councils. Linda is an active member of our Green Team.
Donna came to us from a property management role in another local management company. Donna has managed buildings big and small and looks after a small portfolio of buildings, while helping to organize a number of special projects that apply to many buildings in our portfolios. She will also be assisting some of our other managers with individual special projects in their buildings.
Shelby has an extensive background in communications and administrative services within the public sector. A self confessed real estate junkie, Shelby is involved with our long term furnished rentals and has just transitioned to our strata department. She is excited to take on the new challenges and rewards of strata management, while staying involved with specific aspects of rental management as well.
Bryan joined us from another local management company where he handled all their residential rental properties. Bryan manages a variety of good quality residential rentals, both of high end homes and individual condominiums.
Mike is in our Nanaimo office. Mike comes to us from a local Nanaimo strata management company. Prior to moving to Nanaimo, Mike was also involved in the strata management industry in Vancouver where he worked for one of the lower mainland’s largest strata management companies.
Shannon, who came to us from another property management company here in Victoria, has quickly fit in to our strata management team. She works with a few other property managers on a variety of projects in the Victoria area and will transition to managing her own portfolio as her experience with Proline increases.
Originally from England, James has come to us most recently from Banff, where he spent a year working in a number of customer service roles. James has recently completed the strata manager licensing course and in January passed the exam to become a licensed strata manager.
Our Accounting and Administrative Staff
We presently have an administrative/accounting support team of 15 people. Our support staff members have all enjoyed a variety of experiences, both in and out of the property management area. This team's diverse skills blend very well to provide excellent service, accounting and administration for our clients.
